It requires a great deal of boldness and a great deal of caution to make a great fortune, and when you have it, it requires ten times as much skill to keep it. –Ralph Waldo Emerson
There are plenty of voices telling us how to get rich but where are the voices telling us how to be rich? What is “rich” anyway? Who’s definition are we using? How do you know when you’ve gone from “poor” to “rich”? How much stuff, money, property, savings, etc., do we need to accumulate before we can consider ourselves “rich”?
In this 4 part series, we’ll see what the Bible has to say about being rich, we’ll drown out some of the voices telling us how to get rich and realize that most of us already are.

January 8 – You Didn't Know?
Many people work, sweat, scheme, bleed and worry in the pursuit of the ever elusive goal of getting rich. It’s the proverbial carrot in front of the horse. But what if we’ve already achieved that goal and don't realize it? What if we’ve obtained the very thing we’re chasing? What if we already are, in fact, rich? In part 1, we’ll try to answer that question.
Januray 15 – A Transfer of Trust
There’s always somebody with more than we have and that’s why we don't think of ourselves as rich. But the truth is, if we have more than we need, we’re rich. And if you have more than you need you have certain temptations specific to rich people. In part 2, we’ll discuss a passage written directly to you and the subtle temptation it addresses.
January 22 – Above Average
Survey after survey reveals that when it comes to generosity, rich people rank equal to, if not below, those with less than them. Apparently, rich people are below average in one area. Even though that’s true it doesn’t make any sense. Rich people have extra so they should be extra generous, right…?
January 29 – A Foolproof Investment
Even though many people believe it does, guilt or awareness of need doesn’t impact our generosity. They’re great short term motivators but they hardly ever last. The one thing that impacts our generosity the most is viewing our wealth through the lens of eternity. Looking through that lens loosens our grip on our stuff, which loosens its grip on us. Smart rich people understand this and leverage their wealth accordingly.
